Caroline Dezendorf
My passion for teaching stems from my love of nature and the outdoors. I have dedicated my life to protecting the environment and promoting an understanding of the natural world. In the last few years, I have had the privilege of traveling the globe to explore new environments and work with world-class professors. I spent six months living in South Africa studying biogeography and human impact on the environment. I believe life is better with a little adventure and use every opportunity possible to take on new challenges. I have SCUBA dived with sharks off California's coast and in the waters surrounding Fiji. In addition, I am an elite cyclist who advocates for bicycle rights and women's equality in the sport.

For the last seven years, I have worked with students at different levels and abilities through teaching and tutoring. I began my teaching career in San Rafael, Ca teaching freshman biology, junior/senior physiology, and 7th grade integrated science. Prior to teaching, I completed a M.A. in International Studies at the University of Oregon, where I was a graduate teaching fellow in the International Studies department. For five quarters, I assisted professors in teaching five different classes including Introduction to International Studies, Culture of Capitalism, Global Health and Development, Cross-Cultural Communication, and International Economics. As a graduate teaching fellow, I was responsible for leading section, developing lesson plans, conducting occasional lectures, grading assignments, essays, and tests, and holding office hours. This position allowed me closely interact with students and gain a better understanding of the student-teacher relationship. I have worked as a private tutor assisting middle school, high school, and college students with multiple subjects including biology, basic algebra, geometry, English literature, social studies, and earth science.
As an elite athlete, who participated in competitive sports throughout high school and college, I value athletic participation as a tool to empower youth and increase engagement. I love coaching students in after school sports. Athletics provide direction and discipline, which I believe transfer into schoolwork.
